The Snyder Chair

$8 - 16" wide, 18" seat height

These beautiful Oak and Maple chairs were made by the Snyder Chair Co., a manufacturer of Appalachian hardwood folding chairs, first established in 1919, in Conneautville, Pennsylvania.

While I haven’t been able to ascertain the exact year they were introduced (1930s or 40s, I believe), Snyder produced them, with only minor adjustments, through 2004, merging to become Palmer Snyder in the 1970s.

They were initially made with a 16”-17” seat height which was later raised to 18” to accommodate a growing sized customer. All of my inventory is the taller 18” seat height, which fits perfectly with standard 30” dining tables. The chair width is 16” and the seat-back height is 30".

Most of the Snyder chairs I’ve come across have been the light Maple color and we have about 450 of those in our inventory. But, they also produced smaller quantities of chairs in a dark Oak stain and I’ve used those as inspiration to refinish over 350 chairs in a rich dark Oak that looks beautiful in many settings.
